Dag 18 Rustdag in Myrtle Beach (South-Carolina)

Eindelijk rustdag op een fantastische plek. Uitslapen tot 9 uur en wakker worden met het geruis van de oceaan.  

Er was wel een klein obstakeltje vanmorgen. De toiletpot overstroomde waardoor zowel de badkamer als de hotelkamer onderliep. Het water stopte niet meer. Jaap genoot lekker relaxed op het balkon en had niet in de gaten dat Diana aan het dweilen was met de kraan open. Een telefoontje en de Maintanance guy stond voor de deur om het te fixen.

Wij zijn maar gaan ontbijten en hebben ons om 11 uur op het strand gemeld bij de Parasailing club. Achter een speedboot hangen aan een parachute met allemaal haaien onder je. En dat is geen geintje. Overigens, voordat jullie een idee krijgen. Het initiatief voor het parasailen kwam bij Jaap vandaan. Uiteraard vond Diana het een heel goed idee.

Het was fantastisch om zo in de lucht te hangen boven de Atlantische Oceaan. We hebben gelukkig maar heel even met onze voetjes het water geraakt. We moesten er niet aan denken om als levend aas gebruikt te worden. We zagen vanuit de lucht een schildpad zwemmen en in de verte een paar dolfijnen.

Na dit avontuur zijn we lekker op het strand gaan liggen om ons voor te bereiden op de rit van morgen.

Today is August 27, 2014, Wednesday, which is day 18 out of 25, and our second Rest Day, which was in North Myrtle Beach, SC. We have 7 days left of which 6 are biking days. These 6 days include a 96 mile and 94 mile day. One wrong turn and you could complete a second or third Century Day. We gained 3 and lost 2 people in DC. Today we lost 2 and gained 1.
Today was a real rest day. Many did errands to the post office, to the bike shop, to the local psychiatrist. Other laid in the sun, did laundry and maybe even did a bike ride. I slept till 8am. Had a massage and did a little shopping, and did my laundry.
At some time we were going to do a guessing game of who is oldest, youngest, etc. I would add a few additional questions. Not including staff, who took the most pictures? Leslie, Perry, Colin, others? Who had the most ice creams? Abe, Arnold, others, should this be any ice cream including the one distributed by Mike? Or maybe only Dairy Queen? Does the size of serving count?   Who had the most mechanical issues with their bike? Who had the most calls to Garmin? Of the couples who are officially married? Not that it matters… Who helped the most turtles across the road? Who had the most dog attacks? Who saw the most wild life, not including horses, cows or goats? Who got the most flat tires? Who had most crashes? Who had the biggest crash? As we all shared these experiences in our debriefing/happy hours, maybe who did what doesn’t matter that much because have become a team of the 2014 Ride the East adventurists, and experienced all of this together. 
The potential blog topics are becoming thinner. Maybe we need to discuss road kill as we see more of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. 
Tomorrow is Georgetown, SC. It is on the water and is about 7 square miles with a population of 9,000.Some historians believed it was the earliest settlement in the U.S. from Europe in 1526. It was home to many plantations and a large slave population. In 1840, 50% of the rice grown in the U.S. came from Georgetown district. The list of top things to do is limited to visiting the Antebellum period Mansions.
